Batteries and kangaroos?

Picture of Hazelwood BESS

A former coal-fired power plant rehabilitated into a co-living space for batteries and… kangaroos? ENGIE made it happen in Hazelwood in Australia, where a large-scale 150MW / 150 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) has replaced a thermal power plant, helping the state of Victoria advance on its target of 95% of renewable energy by 2035.

This example is a good illustration of the energy transition in action by the ENGIE teams in the Asia-Pacific region, where I recently met with the teams and local partners in Singapore and Australia. These two countries are very different in many ways, yet they share common energy challenges of fast-growing energy demand, in particular for industrial players and data centers, and the need for #EnergyEfficiency and #Decarbonisation.

Digital is one of the key levers to address this complex puzzle. In Singapore, our SMART O&M digital twin solution is being deployed at more than 50 sites across Southeast Asia, leveraging advanced data analytics and AI, and industrial expertise to optimize asset and energy performance.

Thank you again to the local teams for the warm welcome and your dedication to build an affordable, realistic, and desirable energy transition for all.
